Oxford League Match 2

Team Kennet Juniors rose to the occasion over the school summer holidays to win the latest round of the Oxford Young Athletes League at Banbury to give them a chance of winning the league, this was the third Junior match win in a row, with one match left in September a win will secure overall league Title.

On the day all the three female age groups won their matches, Zoe Allen was on holiday form getting a sprint double in the 100m 13.7 and 200m 28.7, she was well backed up in the B strings as Emma Davies 100m 14.8 came 2nd and this placing was matched in the 200m with Annabel Maclean 31.2, the 800m saw a Double win from Eve Brown 2.37.9 and Emma Davies 2.45.5.
Annabel Maclean took part in her first 70m hurdles race to come away with a great win in 13.3 and finally on the track the quartet of Allen, Brown, Davies and Maclean took a convincing win in the 4x100m relay in 59.6
The field events saw Zoe Allen make it a hattrick of wins in the Shot with 7.90 and Brown securing a second win in the B string 5.72, the Discus Keira Cawley came 2nd 12.67 and Caitlyn Davies winning the B string 11.20, the Javelin Maclean came 3rd with 20.08, in the Jumps Neve Wright came 3rd in the High 1.25 and 5th in the long 3.63 with the B string Emma Davies taking 3rd place.

The under 15 girls track a superb Double win came in the 800m Annabel Todd 2.34.4 and Annalise Gale 2.39.7, in the longer 1500m Emily Tucker came 3rd, the 300m Aimee Dickson came 4th 47.1 and a great run by Tucker took a B string win 46.5, Annabel Gibson came 4th in the 100m 14.2 and Dickson took 3rd B string 14.1, in the 75m hurdles Lottie Absolom came 2nd 13.5 and Dickson made it a B string win 14.2, finally on the track the 4x100m team of Todd, Tucker, Gale and Dickson came home in 2nd place.
The Field events faired well for the girls, Absolom in the Long jump came 2nd 4.18 and Todd taking a B string win 4.01, Absolom came 2nd in her high jump 1.38, tucker came 2nd in the Shot 8.18 with Gale taking 3rd B string, two 3rd places came in the Discus Todd 20.80 and Gale 12.90

The under 17 women turned out a good squad as they have done all season, Ellie Kerslake came 2nd in the 100m 13.5, same placing in the 200m from Amy Russell 28.8, in the slightly longer 300m Lily Darcy Masters just got to the finish line in first place 48.8, the long jump saw Ellie Kerslake 5th A and Izzy Kerslake 2nd, Phoebe Hoaen had a good day 2nd in the Shot 8.46 then wins coming from the Discus 21.78 then her best event the Javelin 39.85

The under 15 boys were the highest placed from the males in 2nd place, Liam Cawley securing 3 wins in the Javelin 48.64, the Discus 32.23 and Shot 11.34, Kian Hockaday took part in the B strings Javelin 2nd 25.77, and 3rd places from the Discus 14.78 and Shot 5.50.
Matthew Jones cleared 1.40 to finish 2nd in the high Jump with B string George Mackie winning with same height, both teamed up again in the long jump Jones leaping 4.63 for 3rd place and another B win from Mackie 4.49
Best track event came from Noah Kemp in the 1500m winning in 4.58.9, Kemp came 4th in the 300m 48.3, Mackie came 3rd in the 200m 27.9 and Jones coming 5th in the 100m
The 4x100m relay Jones, Mackie, Kemp and Hockaday came home in 2nd place.

The under 13 boys age group saw maximum points coming from the throws James Fenner throwing 30.41 in the Javelin and Joseph Hoaen 21.55, the Discus Seb Simpson 21.27 and Hoaen 15,42 and finally the Shot Simpson 8.20 and Sam Dennis 6.55
Fenner came 2nd in the Long Jump 3.84 and Kian Darcy Masters 5th B string.
The sprints Edward Mackie came 5th and Darcy Masters 5th in the 100m, while in the 200m Fenner came 4th and Mackie 3rd place.
The 4 x100m team of Darcy Masters, Mackie, Fenner and Hoaen came home in 3rd place.

Finally the under 17 men saw only one TK member Harry Booker, he broke his own Discus record throwing 41.53, clearing 1.60 in the high jump for 2nd place and matching this in the long jump 5.15

Oxford League Quadkids

In the 2nd match of the Oxford League, Team Kennet’s Under 9 Boys team finished 1st with 633 points. The Under 9 girls team was 2nd with 159 points, the Under 11 boys were 4th with 779 points and the Under 11 girls 3rd with 564 points.

For the Under 9 boys, Austin Ambrose was the overall winner with 199 points with Aiden Fleming 152, Noah Lauder-Clark 145 and Zack Humphreys 137 the other scorers for the team. Emma Long was the sole Under 9 girl and came 1st overall.

For the Under 11 girls, Bethany MacLean was overall winner with 212 points with Amber Styles 152, Lilia Gale 124 and Florence Waite 76 the other scorers. For the Boys, Ethan Kuijten on 210 points was overall 7th with Will McDonald 201, Harry Fenner 195 and Charlie Todd 173 all scoring points for the team.

In the individual events, the highlight performances were an overall 1-2-3 by Noah, Flynn Murray and Austin in the U9B Vortex throw, Overall wins for Austin in the 75m and Long Jump, both of which broke 7 year old club records. Overall wins for Emma in 75m, 600m and Vortex for U9g. An overall 3rd place for Will in the U11B vortex and overall wins for Bethany in the U11G 600m and Vortex plus a 2nd place in the 75m.

Inter Counties Match

Team kennet had several athletes compete for Berkshire at the inter counties u13 match held at Kingston.

Best result of the day came from Seb Simpson in the Discus as he came 2nd overall with a throw of 25.36 putting him 9th in the UK rankings. He also threw the shot 8.12 for 7th in the b string.

James Fenner came 7th in the A string Javelin throwing 29.44.

The girls best result came from Eve Brown throwing 27.02 in the javelin for 2nd b string and in the A string Claire McGonnel came 7th with a throw of 24.39.

Kirsten Fraser came 5th in the 1500m in 4.58 and finally Zoe Allen representing Oxfordshire ran 14.4 in 100m and 29.93 in 200m and threw 7.85 in the shot to come 4th A string.

South West Inter Counties

Team Kennets Hayley Steward competed for her home county, Somerset, over the weekend in the South West inter Counties match at Exeter. Steward in preparation for next season to get back in to Heptathlon took part in three events, her 400m clocked a personnel best time of 60.29 that saw her finish 2nd, she also finished 2nd in her two other events, firstly the Shot Put breaking her own club record and personnel best throwing 11.63 and then the Long Jump 5.14

Hampshire Grand Prix

Team Kennet had several athletes take part in the Hampshire Grand Prix at Basingstoke Wednesday Evening.

Under 20 Stuart Bladon took part in three events the 100m clocking a fast 11.83, he broke the clubs Discus record pushing it up slightly to 36.53 and then lept 5.93 in the long jump.

Oliver Bazin took part in the under 17 age group clocking 24.8 in the 200m and in the long jump 5.73, just back from English Schools with a medal Pheobe Hoaen took part in the Javelin throwing 38.23
The under 15 age group Amiee Dickson ran in the 300m clocking 46.7 and in the 800m a personnel best from Noah Kemp with 2.23.78 while on the field events Oliver Ford threw the shot to a new best of 10.50 and in the Javelin 33.52 throw.

English Schools

Team Kennet had a record number of athletes at the English Schools Championships held at Birmingham on Friday and Saturday of six athletes.

Junior Boy Liam Cawley representing Hampshire was the best placed athlete winning a Silver medal in the Javelin with a throw of 54.58 just shot of his personnel best.
Another medal came in the Inter Girls Javelin Pheobe Hoaen she threw 43.40 to just stay ahead by 4cm to claim a Bronze Medal in her first English Schools Championship representing Berkshire, also competing for the first time was Sophie Wheadon in same age group in the discus throwing 31.43 to finish 8th.
Stuart Bladon made it through to the final in the Senior Boys 110m hurdles to finish 6th in the final with a time of 14.66.
The Inter Boys age group Harry Booker cam 16th in the Discus 38.45 and Ben East came 11th in the Javelin 50.05 but ended up with a bad ankle injury that will see him out for 2-3 months on an event that he has dominated for several years.

Berkshire U13 Championships

Team Kennet had several athletes compete in Bracknell at the Berkshire under 13 Championships including the longer distances.

Kirsten Fraser broke the clubs 1000m record finishing 2nd in a fast time of 3.08.42, Claire McGonnell rose to the occasion to take her first ever county title in winning the Javelin with a throw of 25.30, both girls took part in the 70m hurdles McGonnell coming 3rd in her heat to reach the final in 12.88 but came 5th in the final, Fraser came 5th in her heat 13.08.
The girls long jump Octavia Thomas lept 3.94 to finish 5th and Lyla Goodwin came 9th 3.66.
Ivan Chekmazov came 3rd in the boys long jump 4.07 an Josepth Hoaen picked up two Silver medals in the Javelin 21.43 and Discus 16.20
Izzy Hole took part in the u20s 1500m Steeplechase to win Gold in a time of 6.19.32

Wessex Quadkids Match 4

Team Kennet’s Quadkids team could only finish in 6th place in the final Wessex League match at Andover as the boys were severely depleted.

For the girls, Bethany MacLean topped the yellow vests and came 5th overall with 208 points. Erin Gosney scored 181 with Leilah Gaye 129 and Eloise Ross 128 the other scorers.

For the boys, Harry Fenner’s score of 214 was 6th overall with Joseph Bell 156 the only other boy taking part.

In the Vortex throw, Bethany threw 27.92 (3rd overall) with Erin throwing 20.09 and Eliska Simpson throwing 17.84m for the girls. Harry threw 35.12 to win overall for the boys with Joseph throwing 23.78m.

In the 600m run, Bethany’s 2.04.1 was 5th overall with Erin 2.12.5 and Leilah 2.24.5 for the girls. The boys were close with Harry 2.19.9 and Joseph 2.21.9.

In the 75m sprint Bethany’s time of 11.8s was 3rd overall for the girls with Erin 12.2 and Tillie 12.5 just behind while Harry ran 12.3 and Joseph 14.0 for the boys.

In the Long Jump, Erin 2.99 just pipped Bethany 2.98 with Leilah 2.69 for the girls. Harry’s leap of 3.32m was 5th overall for the boys with Joseph 2.85.

Wessex Match 4

Team Kennet Juniors took their second League win in 8 days of the Wessex Young Athletes League held at Andover to finish third overall in the League to cap a brilliant season only beaten by two clubs all season.

On the day TK Yellow Vests had to battle hard to keep in front but towards the end of the match their strength in depth carried them through to Victory seeing 43 individual wins on the day.

The under 13 Girls took a convincing win in their league to finish runners up, in the 1200m a very tactical race developed with Eve Brown sprinting to victory in 4.04.7 and just behind Emma Davies sprinted past her B string rival to win her B string 4.19.8, Kirsten Fraser made it a 800m win by storming to victory in 2.27.7 and Alanna Smith coming 2nd in the B 2.54.8, Fraser came 2nd in the B string 70m hurdles, 13.6, this time was matched by Claire McGonnell in the A string where she came 4th. The Sprints were grueling Zoe Allen came 4th in the 100m A 14.2 and 3rd in her 200m 29.1, Annabel MacLean coming 5th in the 100m 15.3 and McGonnell 3rd in the 200m 30.3, on the Field a double win came in the Javelin Eve Brown throwing 26.13 and Alanna Smith 23.24, Zoe Allen found herself in a tough Shot competition taking 3rd A with a throw of 8.12 and Brown taking a Hatrick of wins in the B string 5.89. MacLean won her B string High Jump best of the jumps.

The under 17 Women again won their match but had to settle for runners up in their own league, The Field events saw high points in the Shot Sophie Wheadon 10.55 and Pheobe Hoaen 9.11 both winning, Wheadon made it another win in her Discus 30.59 and was backed up by Georgina Thomson winning the B string, and in the Javelin Hoaen threw 40.51 to win this and Anna Montagne winning the B 27.08, Georgina Thomson won the High Jump, in the Long Jump Montagne had to settle for 2nd with 4.82 and this was matched by B string Rebecca Thomson.
The track also saw great wins Montagne won the 80m Hurdles 13.0, Bethan Philp won the 1500m, Both Thomson twins teamed up in the 800m to finish 2nd A Rebecca and 1st B string Georgina. The Sprints 200m Faye Saunderson came 2nd 27.9 and Hoaen won her B string 31.6, in the shorter 100m Saunderson was 3rd across the line 13.3 and Izzy Kerslake coming 2nd B string 13.6, Both Saunderson and R. Thomson came 3rd in their 300m races and finally a great win in the 4 x100m clocking 53.2 by Saunderson, Kerslakes and Montagne.

The under 15 boys won their match to lift them to top 8 overall in their league, the squad was boosted by new members Josh Down coming 2nd in the 100m A string 12.1 and 4th in the 200m 24.9, Teague Pasea winning the B string 100m 12.5 and 200m 25.4, Noah Kemp won his B string 300m and Oliver Humphreys came 2nd in the 80m Hurdles best of the individual track, with the new boys the 4x100m saw a superb victory in 50.2 by Pasea, Matthew Jones, Jonah Briggs and Down.
The field saw its usual domination of events Matthew Jones winning the High Jump 1.50 with George Mackie taking 2nd B string, Oliver Ford throwing 11.18 to win his Shot, but had to settle for 2nd place in the Discus 31.09 but was backed well by Liam Cawley in the B string 27.90, the Javelin saw a great win by Cawley 52.96 and Kian Hockaday making it a double 33.22.

The under 17 men also won on the day, lifting them to top 3 overall in their league, Oliver Bazin won his Long Jump 5.76, Harry Booker winning the High Jump 1.55, Booker then winning the Shot 11.32 with Ben Lawrence winning the B string 9.04
Booker made it a hattrick of wins in the Discus and breaking his own club record to 39.79 and Alex McLaughlin winning the B string 26.15, Lawrence then threw a 42.27 to win his Javelin and McLaughlin won the B string. On the track Bazin came 2nd in the 100m 12.2 and 3rd in the 200m 24.3 and Mclaughlin came 2nd in the B string 200m 26.8

The under 13 Boys also welcomed newcomer George Down to boost the team as they finished 2nd on the day, he won his 100m in 13.4 and his 200m 27.8, Jacob Avery ran a superb B string 100m to win this in 14.1, Down made it a hattrick of wins in the Long Jump leaping to 4.47 in the A string, James Fenner taking 3rd B string.
Points kept flowing in the field Seb Simpson and Josepth Hoaen both coming 2nd in their strings of the Shot, Simpson matching this position in the Discus 21.98 and Hoaen taking a B win 15.72, and best came in the Javelin that saw a double win Fenner 28.59 and Hoaen 23.01
Finally the 4x100m team came 2nd Down, Fenner, Avery and Edward Mackie.

The under 15 girls had a light team than usual some very good performances came Charlotte Absolom coming thir in her Discus 16.44 and Annelise Gale 2nd B string, Absolom taking 2nd in her Javelin 20.90, in the shot Emily Tucker came 2nd 8.87, in a very high performances in the high jump Gemma Moon had to settle for 4th A string 1.35 and Absolom 3rd B 1.30, on the tack best result came in the 800m Emily Tucker taking 2nd A string 2.39 and Annelise Gale clocking same time and placing in the B string.

Wessex League Quadkids

Team Kennet Quadkids team produced their best result so far of the season in the latest match of the Wessex Young Athletes league held at Swindon by coming second.

Bethany MacLean won the girls outright with a score of 231pts, she ran a fast 75m sprint in 12.3, lept to one of the best long jumps of the day 3.34, and was the fastest in the 600m races clocking 2.02 and then throwing the vortex 34.54m to win this. Erin Gosney came third overall also clocking a fast 12.3 in the 75m sprint she also won her heat in the 600m and second fastest on the day in 2.07 and he vortex of 23m was good enough for her third overall. Esmie Denton was the clubs third scorer here she ran 13.7 in the 75m it was her vortex of over 20 that pushed her score up. Tillie Bell ran 13 seconds for 75m and Imogen Cowell also ran a fast 75m in 13.3
The boys saw Harry Fenner best placed in 8th it was his vortex of over 36m that scored his best points, Charlie Todd best event was the 600m clocking 1.59 to come in 2nd in his heat, but also ran 12.4 in the 75m sprint. Will McDonald ran 12.9 in the 75m sprint and also threw over 32m in the vortex.
