SEAA Championships

Team Kennet Athletes came away with a haul of medals from the SEAA U13, U15 and U17 Championships at Lee Valley.

Annabel Todd took Silver in the Under 13 girls 800m with a time of 2.26.46. Charlotte Absolom also picked up a silver medal in the Under 13 girls High Jump clearing 1.39m but her Long Jump of 4.14 failed to gain a medal.

In the under 15 boys, Ben East continued his dominance of the event winning Gold with a throw of 60.17m. Harry Booker picked up a silver medal with a Shot Put of 13.15m which broke the club record. He almost went 1 better in the Discus where his throw of 45.26 (also a new club record) matched the winner’s throw but he got silver on countback based on his 2nd best throw.

In the Under 17 Men’s Long Jump, Oliver Bazin jumped 5.86 to finish 9th.

u13 inter counties

Team Kennet had several athletes picked to represent Berkshire in the u13 Inter Counties at Kingston over the weekend, on the day only three could make the trip, Oliver Absolom just missed out on his Discus best to throw 17.91 for 7th place, while in the Javelin Oliver humphries threw just short of his best with a 25.35 for 8th place in a very tight competion. Lottie Absolom took part in the 100m non scoring to clock 14.8,unfortunality her favoured event the high jump (1.47 this year) she is Berks number 3  couldnt take part in this event as the county team could only have two represetitives, where all three girls are ranked in top 12 in the UK.


English Schools

Team Kennet had several athletes compete at the English Schools Finals held at Birmingham over the weekend.

Ben East stole the whole meeting athlete of the weekend as he broke his own UK Record for the Javelin for the second time this season throwing 66.95 in the Junior Boys age group, on the way he also set a new English Schools record and a new club record to claim a Gold medal.

In the same age group Harry Booker was involved in a very close Discus Final securing a Bronze medal Booker threw 42.16m.

In the Girls Junior age group Sophie Wheadon took part in the Discus to throw 30.04 to finish 5th out of 21.

Stuart Bladon took part in the 100m Hurdles in the Inter Boys age group, he came 5th in his heat in 14.01, but clipped a hurdle hard to slow him down, Bladons time just wasn’t quick enough for the final.

SAL Match 4

Team Kennet secured another great 2nd place at Winchester in the Southern Athletics League Division 3SW match.

In scorching temperatures 22 wins were notched up by the Yellow Vests, It was Heptathlete Haley Steward that was the clubs best athlete on the day clocking up three wins, first was in the Shot with a 10.59 throw, followed straightaway in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.10, not long from this she won the B string 400m in 63.1, Anna Montagne took the 400m overall with a superb timed run in 61.8.

Bethan Phelp added another A string win in the 800m with a great sprint finish to come across the line in 2.27.0 and Georgina Bradford winning the B string in 2.45.6

The Hurdles events Both Kira Angell and Caitlin Nowell teamed up, Angell taking two 2nd places in the A string 100mh 19.1 and 400m hurdles 75.2 and Nowell taking two B string wins in 21.2 and 78.8

Angell teamed up with Montagne in the High Jump both securing 2nd places Angell clearing 1.45 and Montagne 1.50, the Triple Jump saw two more 2nd places from Steward 9.06 and Carys Cox 8.65.

The faster track races the Sprints 100m Montagne took 2nd 13.2 and Sunita Sisodiya also 2nd 13.4, in the longer 200m Steward took 2nd place 27.5 and Susodiya taking 3rd 30.4.

The womens throws secured high points yet again, double wins came in the Javelin Pheobe Hoaen 34.88 and Deborah Montgomery 25.70, The Discus saw a win from Charlotte Booker 23.94 in the hammer Alisha Bradford had to settle for 2nd 30.40 and Booker won the B string 29.58

The mens section started well, on the track two wins came in the 400m hurdles with Daneil Hockaday and Nick Bull, both teamed up again in the high Jump with Hockaday taking 2nd A string and another win came from Bull in the B string. Josh Willock then won the 100m in 11.3 and Oliver Bazin taking 2nd in the B string. Willock made it a superb sprint double in the 200m 23.0 and Daniel Hockaday securing a 2nd B string 24.9.

Points from the 400m upwards were hard to get securing 3rd or 4th places from Mitch Poustie, Ben Schiffer-Harte, Simon Hockaday and Nick Bull, the Long Jump secured two 2nd places with Willock 6.11 and Bazin 5.45 in the Triple Jump Willock cleared 11.91 for another win and Schiffer-Harte2nd B string.

The throws scored well despite most the club main throwers were away, in the Hammer Stan Chambers and Simon Hockaday both came 2nd places, this was matched again in the Discus with Chambers and Bull, both Chambers and Bull teamed up again in the Javelin for another two 2nd places, and again two more 2nd places in the Shot from Chambers and Schiffer-Harte.

Berkshire U13 Championships

Team Kennet had several athletes compete at the u13 Berkshire Track and Field Championships held at Bracknell.

Annabel Todd took the clubs only gold in a well deserved performance that saw her run 1.45.9 just missing out on the club record in the 600m, she added another medal a Silver in the Discus with a new Personnel best of 19.77. Aimee Dickson secured a Bronze Medal in the 70m hurdles clocking 13.3. Charlotte Absolom earned herself two Silver medals firstly in the High Jump with 1.40 and in the long jump 4.17. Oliver Absolom got a Bronze in the Discus with a throw of 19.16 and Oliver Humphrey just missed out on a medal in the Javelin with a throw of 24.38

SEAA Combined Events

Team Kennet struck twice at the recent South of England Multi events Championships held at Horspath Athletics Track in Oxford.

Stuart Bladon earned himself South of England Champion in the Octathlon in the under 17 age group with a below par of 4093 pts. Bladon clocked up a 54.38 in the 400m, 13.9 in the 100m hurdles, 1.80 in the high jump, 5.91 in long jump, 11.50 in the shot, 31.75 Discus and in the javelin 36.38.

Harry Booker came Runners Up in the under 15 boys age group with 2319 pts, in his 800m ran 2.31.04, 80m hurdles 13.1. 1.53 in his high jump and 5.25 in the long jump and 11.48 in the shot.


Nat. Prep School Championships

Team Kennet had several athletes competing for their schools at the recent Prep National School Championships held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

Imogen Wiggin competing in the under 14s 800m earned herself a Silver medal in a close finish that was right on the line clocking 2.24. Wiggin ran a steady race to settle in third place at the bell, she then went past the second place girl with 250m to go, then gradually caught the leader to the finish line to be just pipped by .1 second.

Annabel Todd competed also in the 800m in the under 12s. She was also in a fast and gruelling race with temperatures hitting the 30 degrees. She had to settle for a bronze in another fast time of 2.26.

Lottie Absolom also in the u12s just missed out on medals in the High Jump, clearing 1.41 for 4th place, another height she would of won on count back

Wessex League Match 3 Quadkids

Team Kennet under 11s were finally beaten in the Wessex Young Athletes League held at Swindon, by a mere 3 pts.
The girls managed to stay unbeaten and have secured their age group league while the boys came 4th.
The result also took the club off the top in to second place just 70pts behind New Forest Juniors.

On the day Zoe Allen was the clubs best u11, she won the girls section with a score of 238pts second highest in the league this year just 1 point behind clubmate Clare McGonnell. Zoe Claimed a new Club Record that has stood for 15 years in the 75m sprint clocking 11.0, this was the second fastest time of the day, she also clocked second fastest 600m time of the day with a new best time of 1.56. McGonnell came second overall on the day, her best result was Vortex throwing second longest of29.49, while the longest throw went to team mate Neve Wright throwing 30.19 and finishing5th overall. The clubs fourth best scorer was Tilly Sideso she clocked 11.5 for the 75m and finished 7th overall. The Club had 5 athletes in the top 10 with Bethany MacLean making the top 10.

The Boys couldn’ t manage anyone in the top 10 but made most in top 20, James Fenner taking the Yellow vests top spot, his Vortex being best 37m, Jacob Avery was next best clocking 11.3 for 75m, ollie Tozer was on course to make top 5 but had to pull out of the long jump after a 3.51 leap with a injury preventing him from the 600m, it was down to Jack Pyke and Josepth Hoaen to score high for the club.

Wessex League Match 3

Team Kennet kept up their pressure at the top of the Wessex young Athletes League Table with a fantastic victory at Swindon, to give them a slight chance to be crowned champions next month. On the day the club racked up 35 wins and four age group wins which saw nearly 80 club athletes turn up to compete

The under 15 Boys yet again took the age group honours for the club, Again Ben East was on form breaking the league record he set at the last match by winning the Javelin by some 30m, throwing 63.36m, Kian Hockaday backed him up by winning the B string with just over 28m. The discus saw a  tough competition Harry Booker having to settle for second place 41.73 and Oliver   Gregory throwing 35.63 won the B sting, Booker had to settle again in 2nd place in the Shot with a 11.89 throw, but Gregory made sure he won his B string 10.90. The field scored highly for the club Booker leaping 1.50 in  the High Jump for 2nd place again, and Matthew Jones made sure he won his B string with 1.40m, The long jump Freddie Boyle came 4th and Jones took 3rd place in the B string. On the track it was the 4x100m relay team of Booker, East, Gregory and Ethan Haines won by a huge margin to just miss out on the League Record, but broke the clubs record setting a fast time of 48.0 seconds. New Comer Ethan Haines made sure he won his 300m on his Debut with a fast 39.7, and Jones taking 3rd B string. Ben East took part in the 100m and surprised everyone as he won his String in 12.2, in the 200m Oliver Gregory  clocked 25 seconds for 2nd place on the line.

The under 17 Men won their age group best on the track was 100m both Oliver Bazin  and Tom Hills clocking 12.7 to finish 5th and 1st in their strings, both teamed up again in the 200m Bazin 3rd 25.4 and Hills 1st b string 25.7, toby Thomas and Cameron Langley earned the u17s good points in their 400m and 800m races. The 4x100m Bazin, Hills, Thomas and Langley won the  relay  in 54.0. On the Field a Double win came in the Long Jump Bazin leaping 5.97 and Langley 4.45.

The under 13 Girls took their first age group win of the season, with some outstanding performances, a double win came in the 70m Hurdles from Lottie Absolom 12.4 and Aimee Dickson 13.2,  another Double came in the 800m with Annabel Todd 2.27 and Tara Hogan 2.44, this was nearly achieved again in the 1200m Kirsten Fraser getting outsprinted down the home straight wit ha time of 4.12.7 for 2nd place and Eve Brown taking a B string win 4.29.9, The sprints were tough for the girls Aimee Dickson picking up best times in her 100 and 200m, so did Lyla Goodwin in her 100m and Abigail Mansfield in her 200m  all picking up 4th and 5th places. On the field the high jump picked up two good 2nd places from Absolom and Fraser. The discus saw another club Double win from Todd 18.62 and Absolom 16.79, and the Javelin saw Annabel Maclean come 2nd and Alanna Smith win the B string.

The under 17 women also took a convincing win to put them top of their age group league, the 800m saw Anna Pettit having to sprint to the line to take her first win of the day in 2.30 and team mate Bethan Philp coming 2nd in the B string2.34.7, both teamed up in the 300m with Pettit taking 3rd and Philp another 2nd place, and again they teamed up in the Long Jump with Pettit 2nd 4.25 and Philp taking a B win. The High Jump saw Ellie Armstrong take 2nd place 1.35, more good points came in the throws, Armstrong taking 2nd in the A string A Shot 10.40 and Pheobe Hoaen winning the B string 9.21, Hoaen came 3rd in the Discus 20.39 and in her best event the Javelin she won by a huge length with 39.38. The Four of the girls won the 4x100m Relay in 57.0

The under 15 Girls had to settle for second place again their was some great performances from the girls, on the Field a Double win came in the Discus Sophie Wheadon winning outright with 29.72 and Annelise Gale taking the B win 14.83, Wheadon made it another win in the Javelin 23.72, and another Double win came in the Shot with Wheadon 9.42 and Lucy Bennet 4.72, in the Jumps high and long only fourth places were achieved. The Track saw only one win this was in the 100m B string by Ellie Kerslake in 13.8 and twin sister came third in the  A string 13.6, the 200m Bennet came 4th 29.0 and Ella Ward same position 30.4 in the B string. The 800m Annelise Gale broke her 2.40 barrier to come 3rd place and in the longer 1500m both Rebecca Thomson and Georgina Thomson came 2nd in times of 5.19 and 5.24. The 4x100m relay team of Bennet, Ward , and both Kerslakes came home in 2nd place in 54.8

The under 13 boys found this match tough, coming 4th, best result from their age group was in the High Jump Euan Avery winning with 1.28 and New Comer Charlie Adams taking 2nd in the B string 1.20, the Javelin saw a good competition Digby Riggall throwing 24.62 to take 3rd and Finlay Plumpton taking 3rd in the B string. Discus result was one better, Oliver Absolom taking 3rd A string 18.29 and Seb Simpson taking 2nd B string, the hot Absolom and Simpson took two fourth places. The long Jump Avery came 4th and Absolom taking 2nd place. The 1500m Jacob Woods clocked 5.14 to take 3rd place and Charlie Adams 5.23 for 2nd B string, The sprints again were tough, Avery only getting 6th with his fast 15.0 while Riggall came 5th with 15.9, Earlier Riggall came 3rd in the B 200m. The Relay quartet came 4th 59 seconds

South East England Combined Championships

Team Kennet had 3 athletes represent their schools in the South East Schools Combined Championships held in Ashford Kent over the weekend.

Stuart Bladon still growing in confidence secured a Silver medal in the under 17 age group with a score of 4886 in his 8 events, he gained personnel bests in the Shot 11.48 and Discus 38.46, his best track event was in the 1oom hurdles clocking 14.1 for third best on the day. other events he clocked 53.5 in the 400m, 4.41.9 in the 1500m, lept 1.79 in the high jump 5.65 in the Long Jump and threw the Javelin 41.34

Anna Montagne in same age group finished 9th in her first multi championships, clocking personnel bests in the 200m 26.4, 2.31.2 in the 800m and 1.53 in the High Jump. The other events saw a 13.1 in the 80m hurdles a 4.42 in the long jump and in the throws Shot 9.29 and 25.93 in the Javelin. to reach 4029pts

Under 15 boys saw Harry Booker finish 11th throwing 11.33 in his shot, 1.52 in the high jump and 5.29 in the long jump on the track clocked 13.0 in the 80m hurdles and 2.28.3 in the 800m for 2330pts
