Three Team Kennet athletes were in action representing Berkshire.

Joe Osler was in the under 13 boys team that finished in 4th Place but Joe was the overall winner of the Standing Long Jump with a huge leap of 2.37m as well as being in the 2nd placed 4 by 1 Lap team and 5th placed 4 by 2 Lap.

Millie Calkin and Annabel Chaffey were in the Under 15 Girls team that came 3rd. The 2 girls made up half the winning 4 by 2 Lap quartet and Millie won the 4 Lap Time trial with a time of 52.7 and came 7th in the Speed bounce with 83 and 18th in the Vertical Jump while Annabel came 11th in the 2 Lap, 12th in the Speed Bounce and 13th in the Standing Long Jump.

Darcey Flemming took the main individual award for best girl of the day with her 1st place in both the standing long jump (2.12m) and the vertical jump (49cm). The rest of the yellow team performed well with Mai Brown taking 2nd place in the vertical Jump, Charlotte Bradley 4th in the speed bounce, Emily Gould and Charlotte winning the Partlau and Lily Gohara and Darcey winning the 2 by 2 Lap as well as Darcey, Charlotte, Emily and Lily winning the 4 x 1 lap relay.

Bethany Jones and Mia Eldridge both just missed out on winning the Speed Bounce with 50 in 20 seconds as the their teams stole the honours in the time trails in the other heats in all the track races by winning them all. The other girls taking part were Ellis Wyer, Kira Angell, Milly Quaintance, Kira Barton, Antonia Lewis, Freya Owen and Ellie Randall.

The team results overall had the three Team Kennet teams in 1st (368 points), 6th (308 points) and 9th (244 points) places.

The boys put in a great performance and were rewarded 3rd in the clubs but 4th overall, Sam Davis was the only individual winner for the boys with 16.75 in the soft javelin and he also produced a 2nd in the speed bounce 49 closely followed by Ben East in 3rd with 48. William Joseph came 3rd in the vertical Jump with 44. The best track result was in the Obstacle relay race where a tight finish edged them into third place. The boys who took part were Josh Livingstone, William Joseph, Ben East, Daniel Hockaday, William Cox, Harry Brooker and Sam Davis and the two teams finished in 4th and 12th places.

The boys team, including William Joseph and William Cox, won the event with 419 points, 5 points ahead of 2nd place Hampshire while the girls team, including Darcey Flemming, came 2nd scoring 424 points behind winners Jersey. Combining the girls and boys team scores, Berkshire were the clear overall winners.

The best individual performance came from Darcey who won the Standing Long Jump with a massive leap of 2.16m which also out jumped all the boys. In the other field events, William Cox came 8th in both the balance test and target throw, William Joseph came 14th in both Standing long jump and Target throw and Darcey came 16th in the Soft Javelin.

In the team based track events, William Joseph was in the winning Berkshire quartet for both the 4 by 1 Lap relay and the Grand Prix relay and also in the 2nd placed pair in the 2 by 2 Lap relay. Darcey was in the Berkshire 4 that came 3rd in the Hurdles relay and 4th in the obstacle relay while William Cox was in the 8th placed 4 in the Over-Under relay.

The Under 15 girls team of Millie Calkin, Annabel Chaffey, Honor Bowers, Sophie Barton and Rhea Walter took the silver medal spot, while the Under 13 girls (Danielle Newton, Suzie Drake, Chloe Jones and Zoe Forte) finished just outside the medals in 4th place.

We also had a sole competitor in the under 13 boys, Joe Osler who finished 5th in the overall allrounder competition scoring only 3 points fewer tha the winner. He won the standing long jump with 2.22m, came 2nd in the High Jump with 1.35m and 3rd in 2 Lap time trial.

For the under 13 girls, Zoe was the highest placed individual in 7th place, coming 2nd the 2 Lap time trial and 5th in the standing long jump. Chloe came 5th in Shot and 3rd in the parlauf with Suzie and Danielle came 2nd in the speed bounce

For the under 15s, Millie came 2nd overall, winning the speed bounce and coming 3rd in both 2 and 4 lap races. Annabel was 6th overall with 2nd in the long jump and her 4th in speed bounce completed a top 4 for Team Kennet as Rhea and Honor came equal 2nd. Sophie was 5th in the Shot and 7th in the 2 Lap.

Codie with Medals and Coach Averil

Team Kennet’s Codie Burnett became one of the Berkshire team to win a the counties first ever Gold Team Medal at the Indoor Sportshall UK National Final as the u15 girls team on their debut in the finals were surprise winners.

Codie who gave up Athletics 18 months ago was persuaded by Sprint Coach Averil Hewitt to give it one more go, and 7 months ago she re joined the club and has been dedicated in her training. Codie had to compete in four events on the day, starting of with the 4 lap individual run where she won her heat and finished top 8, but her next event which she is berkshire best, secured her a Bronze Medal with 84 bounces from 30 seconds. it got better for codie as she took part in the 4 x 2 lap relay where the Berkshire team took full control to win and get Gold medals. Codie then took part in the standing long jump where she didnt fair to well. At the end of the Competition the Berkshire team were crowned Champions and collected their Gold Medals from famous athletes. Codie is also the first person in West Berkshire to get any colour medal in the National Finals.

Burnett who is now top of her age group came 2nd in the Speed Bounce to be just edged out, she them matched that in the 2 lap heats finishing 8th overall, then she was part of the 4 x 2 lap relay where Burnett took over the lead on the third leg for the winning Berkshire team. Codie came 15th in the individual all rounder competition.

The Under 15 Boys came 3rd overall with Sam Randall winning the 4 Lap event outright and coming 2nd in the 8 Lap Parlauf. A result of 9.13m in the shot gave him 11th place and 17th in the Triple Jump made an overall 20th in the all rounder competition.

Three Team Kennet girls were in the Under 13 team that finished 4th. Annabell Chaffey came 4th in the Standing Long Jump with 2.24m, 7th in the 2 Lap time trial and was in the 4 by 2 Lap team that came 2nd. Georgina Bradford came 7th in the 8 Lap parlauf, 8th in the Speed Bounce and 10th in the 4 Lap time trial and Leah Beecheywas 5th in the shot with 8.74m but was part of the winning 4 by 1 lap relay team.

Millie Calkin (u13G) and Conlean McDonald(U15B) were also selected for the Berkshire teams but were unable to take part due to trips abroad.

In the corresponding under 11 event in January, Chloe Jones was part of the 2nd placed Berkshire team coming 6th in the Chest Push and 8th in the Obstacle Relay.  Sam Davies was also selected for the Under 11 boys squad but ended up as the reserve as the boys went on to win the event.

Unfortunately the usual clash with football and rugby meant we could not enter a boys team.

The best individual performances came from Lexi Fellows who finished 2nd A stream in the Speed Bounce and Carli Nichols 3rd A stream in the Standing long Jump. Carli also came 2nd in the B stream Soft Javelin behind Chloe Jones who was 5th in the A stream while Beth Jones came 3rd in B stream Speed Bounce.

On the track Lexi and Chloe came 6th in Parlauf and Lexi was joined by Carli for 7th in 2 by 3 Lap. Our 2 younger athletes Beth Jones and Mai Brown found the 2 by 1 Lap hard work against the older girls finishing 12th but improved this to 10th when joined by Lexi and Chloe for the obstacle relay.
