Team Kennet we’re back in action in the second round of the Basingstoke Junior Cross Country League, Team Kennet we’re the hosting club this time being held at Down Grange.
The conditions were really good with the days rain before making the conditions tricky over the twisting up and downs of the course with far end of the course with plenty of mud and some water thrown in.
The day started with the under 9 girls Gracie Williams and Annabelle Jones set of with the leading girls, halfway round both girls found themselves battling it out with each other as the leading pair broke away, down the home straight to the finish Williams came home in 3rd place, with Jones just behind, Bella Dearns had a great run, found herself fast catching up with the TK girls down to the finish to be placed 6th and Pippa Clay brought home the team in 2nd place with Isabella Harte moving up the field for 18th place
The under 9 boys were up next and last match winner Rory Ridler had some competition this time, he took the race on and just about managed to hold of fast approaching lad from Basingstoke to take a great win, Edward Wyer came home next in 11th with Tavish Davidson 16th the team were placed 4th one short of a full team.
The wins started to come in fast, it was Praiya Foreman in the under 11 girls taking full control of the race as in match one to win by well over 30 seconds, great packing by the TK girls saw Olivia Kwit run a superb race to come home in 4th and also improving was Cecily Wyer taking 5th place just one second behind, Isabella Chapman was fourth home in 12th place and bringing the girls home as first team, next home was Flo Randall-Bird in 14th then Evelyn Barker in 24th.
The biggest field of the day saw nearly 80 start in the under 11 boys, Chester Bailey went out and took control of the race to pull a group of around 7 runners, Bailey worked hard over the last third of the course to find himself being chased down by team mate Lenny Wyvill who just ran out of the course as the boys took 1st and 2nd, Matt Jones wasn’t to far behind in 5th place and with Archie Pilling 16th the boys just secured an excellent team win. Thanks to the mid placings packing of the boys which helped them win next home was Idris Gaye 18th then William Winter 19th, James Rehill was 49th followed by Jacob Williams in 51st.
The under 13 girls were up next over the course of 1 1/2 laps, Matilda Clare led the way for the yellow vests coming home in 4th place, great packing from Affra Bailey 7th and Darcy Claridge 8th and Chloe Davidson 18th the girls had to settle for 3rd place in a close contest.
The under 13 boys were next over the same course now starting to get very muddy, Sam Atkins started steady to work his way through the field of nearly 50, he settled down to finish 13th place, Isaac Coath made his debut for the club in 28th and Joshua Kuijten was next placed in 39th and Alfie Cronk coming home in 46th for 4th placed team.
The under 15 girls were next and another superb win came from Olivia Bentley who timed her race to perfection overtaking the lead girl with only 5 metres to go, Ella Cronk was TKs other girl in 12th place.
In the under 15 boys race Reuben Kuijten worked his way round to finish a creditable 17th
