Oxford League Match 2

Team Kennet took a convincing win in the second match of the Oxford Junior League on Sunday held at Horspath in Oxford.

The under 15 girls won their section as they only dropped two points on the field events, in the throws Sophie Wheadon won her three events firstly in A string of the Shot 8.68 and Discus 22.80 and backed up with a B string win in the Javelin 21.03, Pheobe Hoaen also had a hatrick of wins A string Javelin 29.98 and B string Discus 21.97 and on the track the B string 800m.

Ellie Armstrong made sure she got in to the wins winning the A string high jump with 1.33 and taking the B string Shot 8.59.

Poppy Bladon also took B string win in the High Jump 1.30, in the Long Jump Anna Montagne had to settle for third place 4.35 but Anais Taank cleared 4.30 to win the B string. More wins came on the track Montagne winning the 300m in 45.2 and lily D’Arcy Masters 3rd B string 48.7, Montagne came a very close 2nd in the 100m 13.3 but team mate Taank won the B string 14.1, Taank could only get 4th in the 200m A race 29.3 another B win came from Chloe Collins29.8.

Bethan Philp ran well in the 1500m to finish a close 2nd place 5.21.4 with D’Arcy Masters coming 4th  in the A string 800m, finally the 4 x100m team of Montagne,Taank, Collins and Amy Russell came home with another victory in 55.2 making it 13 wins in their age group.

The under 17 women also won their age group, again it was the throws that also picked up most points, Kira Angell came 2nd in the Javelin 27.31, which was matched in the Discus with Charlotte Booker in the Discus 23.86 and Shot where she came third 7.23, Dominika Humphrey came 1st B string in both Shot 6.38 and Discus 15.97. Angell made it a win in the High Jump 1.42 while in the long jump Izzy Hole was 3rd and Rosa Lawrence winning the B string. Angell had to settle for 2nd in the sprint hurdles with 14.7 but in the longer distance race 1500m a double win came from Izzy Hole 5.10.8 and Rosa Lawrence 5.29.2, Hole came 3rd in her 300m towards the end of the day with Lawrence taking 2nd in the B string.

The under 13 girls struggled in their match, with several key athletes missing the high lights from there age group were 800m where Tara Hogan timed her race to perfection to win 2.44.6 and Annelise Gale taking the B string 2.46.9, two third places came in the 70m hurdles from Annabel Gibson 14.2 and Emily Tucker 14.9, on the field good points were secured by several athletes.

The under 17 men had to settle for second place after their last match win, Tait Weekes took full control to win his 100m in 11.7 with Zach Montgomery takin 2nd B string 12.7, in the 200m Montgomery won the B string 25.8. Stuart Bladon came a close 2nd in his 1500m race 4.32.6 and Bradley Thomas taking the B string 4.59.5, in the field events Montgomery made it another win in the Shot 11.24 and Bladon added the Javelin 34.56 and 4th in his Discus 25.52

The under 15 boys also finished second in their age group, best of the points coming from the throws Ben East returning from the English Schools threw 49.77 to win the Javelin, and another athlete returning from English Schools Harry Booker won his Discus 36.32 with good back up from Ed Smith 2nd B string. In the Shot Booker and East teamed up for a Double win 11.15 and 10.39, then later both again teamed up in the High Jump to do another Double with East 1.55 and Booker 1.45. The Long Jump Oliver Bazin had to settle for a leap of 4.97 for 2nd place with Cameron Langley 4th 4.12 in the B string. On the Track Langley came 2nd in the 800m 2.27.8, Bazin coming home in third places in the 200 27.0 and 300m 42.1 while the 4x100m relay team were 3rd.

The under 13 boys had to settle for 4th place out of the 8 teams, gain it was the field events that gained most points, Oliver Ford winning his Shot 8.91, Discus21.71 and B string Javelin 31.93, Kian Hockaday had to settle for once second place in the Javelin 32.08, also in the B string discus Colin Sinclair came 2nd and Thomas Woodrow 2nd in the Shot, 2nd place was the best in both string s of the High Jump with Matt Jones 1.35 and George Mackie 1.20. The long jump Oliver Humphrey came 4th 3.99 and Mackie 3rd B string 3.67, Mackie was the best placed athlete for the club on the track in the 75m hurdles coming 2nd in the B string.
