Team Kennet’s Athletes rose to the occasion at the Berkshire Track and Field Championships held at Palmer Park Reading on Sunday.
Alex Hanson in the under 20 mens age group stole the clubs highlights ad he claimed two Berkshire County Titles on the day first the 800m clocking 1.55.5 then the 1500m setting a fast pace to win in 4.03.0 a new best time in this event for him. Stuart Bladon continued his unbeaten season by adding another County title to his name by winning the under 15 boys High Jump with 1.71.
Team Kennet had a big squad of under 15s. In the Girls Javelin, Millie Quaintance threw a massive best of 33.49 to secure a Silver Medal and team mate Phoebe Hoaen took the bronze. Both girls are bottom end of this age group. Lucy Wells just missed out on a medal in 4th place in the 1500m but achieved a new personnel best time of 5.07.4. Izzy Brown came 8th in her heat of the 800m with 2.55.6 and in another heat Hoaen came 4th in her heat 2.46.8. Both girls also took part in the Long jump 3.75 and Discus 18m but were not placed.
In the under 13 age group, it is a Quadrathon the athletes have to take part in, the events are Shot, Long Jump, 75m and 600m. Always a tough series of events but this didn’t deter Harry Booker as he won the event out right to claim another under 13 title, scoring 308pts his 75m 10.5, 600m 1.48.0, long jump 4.28 and a club record in the shot 10.38 (UK no. 3). Oliver Gregory came 5th in the event overall with his best event being the Shot 8.41 and Thomas Joyce finished 6th, the first time the club have had 3 boys in the top 6, his best event was the 600m clocking 1.48.3.
