Wessex Match 3

Team Kennet went back to winning ways in the third of the Wessex Junior Track & Field Matches held at Kings Park in Bournemouth.
This was a match that the yellows had to win to keep them within 1 point of the leaders, now all they have to do is win the last match against league leaders Basingstoke to win the League. There were some outstanding performances all round with both u17 teams winning on the day

Both the under 17 sections won on the day. In the Women’s, Carys Cox won her High jump at the beginning of the day, then went on to win both her 300m and 800m A string events. She was well supported by Susie Drake winning her B string 800m and 300m with 2nd Discus A string. Harriet Allan came 3rd in the sprint hurdles but made up for a second string win in the High jump Jordan Donovan made it another win in the 100m and long jump but had to settle for 2nd in the 200m. A welcome return from Georgia Featherstone who ran well in both the 100/200m races for 2nd places matching that in the Long Jump and helped the relay quartet with Cox,,Donovan and Drake to a win.
The men’s section saw Oliver Hewitt win the Javelin and Shot with 2nd in the Discus. Joe Osler won his High Jump and Long Jump coming 3rd in 100m. Evan Hartley secured 3 wins in his events the High Hurdles, 800m and 400m. Dominic Demonte took B stream wins in the 100m and Shot with 4th in the 200mt.
The under 13 section both girls and boys came second on the day, narrowly missing wins by a few points, Millie Quaintance threw the javelin to another win as the yellows remain unbeaten in the javelin this year, with Kora Stevens winning the B string, Maddi Barnes kept up the winning streak in the Discus and Shot with Stevens making it another B win and 2nd place, A good 2nd place came from Lucy Wells in the 1200m A string with Rebecca Thomson winning the B string. Both Quaintance and Izzy Brown came 2nd in their strings of the Long Jump while Quaintance took 3rd in the Long Jump and Ellen Hill 1st B string.
The boys section dominated the throws once again with Ben East 2nd A and Harry Booker 1st B in the Javelin and reversing that in the Shot while Booker and Cameron Smith both won their Discus strings. East and Thomas Joyce won both string in the High Jump. Elsewhere a solid all round performances kept the points rolling in for the club
The under 15 Girls just missed a win and had to settle for second place on the day, Kira Angell came 2nd in her sprint hurdles, and later wining the High Jump and taking another 2nd place in the Javelin. Olivia Buchanan made her debut for the club, winning the B string high jump, later taking part in both the sprint races coming 4th in both. Kiah-Jay Stevens and Mia Eldridge teamed up in the Shot dominating this event with wins and again in the Discus for 2 2nd places.
The Boys came 4th in a strong competition group, Stuart Bladon came 2nd in a good high jump competition. He came 3rd in the 300m and 2nd in the Long jump. Zachariah Montgomery had a good day in two of his throws Shot and Discus coming 2nd in both and had to settle for 3rd place in the 200m with James Hills winning the Discus and Javelin. Daniel Hockaday won his sprint hurdles race and keeps his unbeaten record in all league matches this year, he came 2nd in the 100m and 3rd long jump.
The last match at Andover on July 19th will set up a great match as Team Kennet after 5 years could win the league again, Basingstoke have won this since on all occasions.
