SAL Match 3

Team Kennet had to travel down to Hastings for their third match in Divison 3S of the Southern Athletics League. Despite several athletes competing in the UK Champs the squad pulled off a good result finishing in equal second place

The day started really well as the Yellow Vests took an early lead in the match. Susie Drake started the track of with a great win in the 400m hurdles 73.9 and in the men’s race a close finish between both club athletes secured an A string second with Samuel Randall 62.6 and B string win from Evan Hartley 63.2. The High jump for the men picked up two good 2nd places from Max Gibbs and Nick Bull, while in the women’s hammer Cheryl Angell came 4th A string 18.68. In the women’s Shot both Deborah Montgomery and Cheryl Angell could only get 5th places each in a good competition but Jordan Donovan leapt 4.55 for 3rd place in the long jump.

Back on the track the 800m races picked up good points. In the women’s both Georgina Bradford and Rachel Bladon came home in 2nd place while in the men’s Alex Hanson broke his personnel best time to win in 1.55.7 with Daniel Collis taking 4th B string. The short sprint races didn’t fair so well, Matt Hunter came 5th A 12.7 and Max Gibbs 4th B 12.6 and in the Ladies Donavon came 4th A with Bladon matching the same position.

The 400m races were next. Carys Cox was in a great battle but had to settle for 2nd place with 60.3 and a great run from Zoe Forte 64.1 brought her a great win. The men’s Samuel Randall clocked 53.3 for only 4th place and Evan Hartley 56.9 for 3rd place and another p.b..

Back on the field events the men’s Shot saw Matt Hunter and Sam Randall picking up 4th places and in the men’s Long jump, Gibbs 5.63 and Hartley 5.15 both picked up good second places. In the women’s Discus, a good result came from Montgomery throwing 21.05 for 2nd place and Angell throwing 17.69 for 3rd B string.

The women’s 3000m was next on the track Georgina Bradford just  ducked under the 12 minute barrier for 2nd A string and a great win came from Kirsty Bennett in the B string. The men’s 5000m was a great race where both Alex Hanson and Callum O’Neill led from the start and finished within seconds of each other for a double win.

The women’s 200m saw only third places from Donovan in the A string and Cox in the B string. This was matched in the men’s by S. Randall and Hunter. In the Field the Triple Jumps picked up good points with a double win from Max Gibbs 11.84 and Randall 10.18 and in the women’s Cox jumped 9.63 p.b. and Bradford 8.10 for a B string win. The Javelin saw Montgomery throw a season best of 22.59 for 2nd A string and Angell came 4th B string 15.02 and in the men’s C. Randall 37.24 for 3rd A string and Rafael Ribeiro 2nd B string 32.31.

The women’s high jump saw Zoe Forte clear 1.45 for 2nd place and Susie Drake 1.30 for 3rd B string.

The Steeplechases always bring good points but this time there was good opposition, firstly in the men’s both Daniel Collis and Callum O’Neill could only manage 2nd places 7.12.7 and 7.34.9 and in the Women’s Drake came 3rd in 8.05.9 p.b. with a great B string win from Bladon 8.12.2

All the relay teams were mixed with sprinters/Distance runners where they all picked up 3rd places towards the end of the day.
