Six Team Kennet juniors competed at Sunday’s Portsmouth Triathlon. The calm water and light breeze provided good conditions for the sea swim, with cycle and run elements on closed roads along the seafront. The Tristar 3 (T3) event for age 13-14 consisting of 300m swim, 6.9 km cycle, 2.4 km run, was won by James McLaughlin on top form in 26:55 min, with an outstanding 1:19 min lead. Holly Hutchins came in as 9th girl and 28th overall, and Phoebe Hoaen was 17th girl and 44th overall. T2 athletes (age 11-12) completed a 200m swim, 4.7 km cycle and 1.8 km run. Alex McLaughlin came in 18th in 25:22, Guy Hutchins 22nd, and Lucy Draper 32nd (10th girl.) The athletes are coached by Gavin McLaughlin who himself competed, taking 3rd place in his age group.
Many thanks to Julia Hoaen for the report and the photos.
