Wessex League Match 2

Match 2 – Bournemouth 8th June

Team Kennet Juniors came so close to winning match 2 of the Wessex track and field league at Bournemouth on Sunday taking it down to just the relays to sort out the match winners, In the process four club records were taken on the day.

In the club records that went on the day, Darcey Fleming in the under 15 girls 75m hurdles took her time down to 11.5 taking her to UK number 3 in the rankings. In the Under 13 Boys Stuart Bladon smashed his best in the High Jump leaping to 1.52 taking him to UK number 4 and in the under 15 boys Oliver Hewitt broke his own Discus record to take it to 35.73. In the younger age groups the under 11s new comer Harry Booker smashed the League Record in the Vortex as he just missed the 50m mark with a sailing throw of 49.90 as he topped the under 11 boys. All four winning their events on the day.

The Under 17 Women continued to show the strength in the league with a convincing age group win to keep them up the top of their league, Millie Calkin producing one of her best 300m races to win in 41.6 with Jordan Donavon 2nd in the B string 44.7 and both teamed up in the long jump with Donavon getting the better winning outright 4.85 with Calkin taking the B string 4.39. and in the 200m to clock wins in their string Calkin 25.70 and Donavon 26.90. Georgina Bradford continued her form as she led the 800m from the gun to win in a new p.b. of 2.22.3 with Cary Cox just behind taking the B string in 2.23.9, both girls took part in the Discus with Bradford 2nd 22.56 p.b. and Cox 1st B string 17.61
Harriet Allan joined in the wins to take the 80m hurdles in 17.1 and she teamed up with Cox in the High jump with both winning their strings. Natasha Roue clocked 14.3 for 2nd in the 100m with Alexandra McCulloch matching that in the B string 15.0 while the Relay team of Roue, McCulloch, Cox and Calkin secured another win.

The under 15 boys age group throwers were on form Oliver Hewitt and Rafael Ribeiro secured a great double win in the Javelin with Hewitt 40.07 p.b. and Ribeiro 39.83. Hewitt made it anther win in the Discus 35.73 as Ribeiro had to settle for 2nd in the B string 25.09 and the boys made it anther double in the shot as Hewitt threw 10.64 and Ribeiro 8.53. Dylan Suppo leapt to 5.52 in the long jump for a A string win with Max Carnell 2nd in the B string 4.52. On the Track Tom Murrell won his first 1500m race in a new best time of 4.56 with Josh Livingstone 5.18.9 for 3rd B string. In the sprints Suppo was involved in a battle in the 100m to be edged into 2nd place 12.1 as Carnell took 3rd in the B string. Suppo had to settle for 3rd in the 200m 25.1 with Max Gibbs matching the placing in the B string and in the 300m Gibbs was 3rd again 43.1 but a great dip on the line saw Sam Hart win the B string 45.9, Both Hart and Rory McCulloch came 4th in their strings of the 800m races. The under 15 boys came 2nd overall

The under 17 men came second as well in their own league Max Hunter coming 4th in the 100m 12.2. Good points came in the jumps as Thomas Murphy and Joe Osler secured a Double win with 1.80 for Murphy p.b. and 1.55 for Osler, he made it another B win in the Long jump with Murphy 3rd A string 5.42. In the throws Christian Randall and Matt Hunter secured anther double win with a great p.b. for Randall 40.45 and Hunter 34.65, both teamed up in the Discus for 2nd places 26.22 and 24.09 and the relay team came home in 3rd place

The under 13 girls came within a whisker of winning their age group, Mai Brown taking the lead and winning with ease in the 1200m 4.04.5 with Lucy Wells taking 2nd B string 4.30.3 in the slightly shorter distance the 800m Anna Pettit made it another win 2.40.2 with Izzy Hole fading to take 3rd B string. Anna Pettit made it a B string win in the 200m 31.4, while Sophie Stancombe secured the other B string win in the 70m hurdles 13.8. Pettit improved her long jump best to 3.91 for 2nd A string.
Both Brown and Kira Angell came 2nd in the high jump both clearing 1.25. The throws again brought good points as Kira Angell threw a huge 25.75 p.b. to win the Javelin with Mia Eldridge taking the B string 20.49. In the Shot another Double came from Eldridge in the A string 8.85 and Maddi Barnes 6.75 in the B string and in the discus Eldridge came 2nd 24.66 and Barnes 14.33 as a non scorer would have won the B string

The under 13 boys came 3rd in very tight age group, best points on the track came from the middle distance, Stuart Bladon and Ryan Cannons both 2nd in their strings of the 800m 2.29.7/2.43.3. The high Jump secured a great double with Bladon winning in 1.52 and Ryan Cannons 1.35 both p.b.s while in the Shot Zachariah Montgomery came 2nd 7.70 p.b. and Sam Davis 2nd B string 6.10, In the Discus Davis got the better this time over Montgomery, Davis coming 3rd A with 18.44 and 17.02 for 2nd B string Montgomery while in the Javelin Davis came 3rd with 20.54

The under 15 girls came 2nd on the day Darcey Fleming having her best day ever on the track with her hurdles of 11.5, she went on to win the 200m in 27.1 with Callie Leighton 2nd in the B string 28.3. In the 800m race Holly Donohoe led from the gun to be outsprinted in the final 50m for 2nd A string 2.30.2 p.b. with Amelia McKay winning the B string in 2.33.6 p.b. In the longer 1500m distance Susie Drake secured a 2nd place 5.22.9. Fleming made it another win in the Long Jump 4.48 with Leighton 2nd in the B string and in the Discus Kiah-Jay Stevens made it another win 23.92 with Drake taking 3rd B string 14.23, Stevens threw 6.78 for 2nd in the shot.

The under 11s on the day won the Quadkids with Southampton 2nd, Harry Booker was convincing on the day with Ben East supporting him all the way as they finished 1 and 2, Thomas Joyce and new comer Barney Fox were 7th and 8th out of 55 boys securing 992 pts a massive score to win their team. In the girls new comer Louise Kane was placed 5th with Lucy Draper and Isabel Stevens coming equal 8th as the girls came 3rd overall, but combined won the age group outright to put them top of the under 11 league.
