Team Kennet started the Cross Country Season off in style at the weekend in the Oxford Mail Cross Country League held at Ascot-under-Wychwood in windy and wet conditions. Some 60 plus club athletes braved the trip, with the best result of the day coming from Sam Clarke in the under 13 boys winning his first ever race in a sprint finish to the line. He was backed up by Ryan Cannons in 8th place 35 seconds behind and a group of TK runners battling it out for that third team place going to younger brother Jack in 16th to help the team to 2nd place. The B team led by Cameron Langley 17th, Toby Thomas 18th and Joshua Sells 33rd were placed 7th and Alexander Long was 36th in a big field of 49 runners.
Mai Brown secured runners up spot in the under 13 girls race with Anna Pettit 9th and Lucy Wells 26th securing a 5th place team, Pheobe Hoaen came 39th with Amy Treacher 57th for a 20th place B team.
Sam Hart made it another runners up spot for the club in the u15 boys race combined with the u17s, with Josh Livingstone 11th
In the under 15 girls Holly Donohoe came in 9th place, Susie Drake 18th, Rosa Lawrence 23rd while in the under 17 women’s race Georgina Bradford came an excellent 6th place with Chloe Scaplehorn 14th and Carys Cox 15th and Kirsty Bennet 24th brought both teams home in the top 12
The senior women’s race saw TK 2nd placed in Division 2 of the League, Helen Preedy led the vests home in 16th place with Sue Francis 20th, Lucy Gettins 54th and Philomena Mburu 95th.
The Men’s team started Division 2 with a 7th place after last year’s promotion but with a full strength team out should be able to push for title contenders. It was the clubs u20s that led the way Nathan Gillis coming home in 10th place and 2nd under 20 athlete on the day. Callum O’Neill came 23rd (5th u20) with Veteran Deam Makar 112th, Martin Fray 130th, Daniel Collis 138th, Mike Sheridan 161st, Chris Treacher 200th for the A team, other members Jonathan Phillips 203rd, Chris Thomson 236th, Colin Price 256th.
Despite being Half Term the club got a lot of the u11and u9s out. For the u11 girls Lucy Draper came home in 7th, Verity Szala 8th, Rebecca Thomson 14th, Georgina Thomson 16th, Brooke Asser 36th, Pippa Thomas 40th, Molly Leach 47th, Emily Tucker 54th. In the boys race James Wallace led the way in 13th, Maxim Brown 17th, James Leach 22nd, Max Curtis 24th, Harry Davis 25th, Charlie Hart 26th, Finlay Davis 27th, Peter Aird 34th, Matthew Jones 40th, Rocco Power 42nd, Karl Smith 51st.
The under 9 combined race saw George Claxton in 10th, Aimee Dickson 16th, India Farrant 21st, Henry Morgan 42nd, Sebastian Simpson 50th
