Team Kennet’s Millie Calkin achieved all her ambitions on Sunday (day 1) when she won a silver medal at the South of England Indoor Track and Field Championships 300m in the under 15 girls age group, smashing the clubs indoor record in the process. All her winter hard training paid off as she was second in her heat and just beaten in the final by the same girl.  it was a Photo finish for 1,2 & 3.

1st – Isio Orogun          -            43.79     -       Dartford Harriers AC
2nd -Millie Calkin        -              43.82     -       Team Kennet AC
3rd – Rosa Prideaux   -              43.84     -       Chelmsford AC

It was a great race.  Bit difficult to get used to running the first 200 in lanes and then breaking into inside lane for last 100m.  Millie was just in second after the break and tried to take the winner on the bend but she just held her off.  As you can see 5 100ths of a second between 1st, 2nd & 3rd, one of the closest races ever at the championships.

Team Kennet had other athletes taking part on day 1. In the u17 mens 400m Samuel Randall eased through to the final as he won his heat in 52.6 but could only managed 5th in the final with a slower time. Luke Conway ran a fast 800m in his heat of the under 20 800m in 2.01.96 for second, but still wasnt quick enough to reach the final. Justin Lakey took part in the Senior mens high jump to finish 6th with 1.85 his first competition for over 6 months.
