Team Kennet were represented by Tom Milburn and Nick Weston at the Mass Attack Duathlon at Thruxton Race Circuit on October 18th.
Weather conditions were good, if a little cold as 137 athletes lined up for the mass start of the 5km run/30km bike/5km run on the closed circuit.
Tom set off at a good pace on the first run and came into T1 11 sec ahead of Nick and in 29th place overall. Nick quickly made up time on the bike and clawed his way up the field to lie in 18th into T2, having completed the 8 laps in 48mins. Tom lost some ground to the stronger bikers and also had puncture problems leading him to cut his bike leg short.
In the second run though, Tom was back into his stronger discipline and had a good second lap to eventually finish 59th overall, and, had it not been for Daniel Bailey who is part of the GB development squad, Tom would have placed 1st in the Junior category.
Nick’s ironman training told in the final run, with the 8th fastest run split of the day giving him 15th overall and 1st in 25-29 category.
With Tom’s great all round ability and with some more miles on the bike he is looking a strong prospect for next year. Nick is concentrating on ironman racing again next year and has his sights firmly set on Challenge Roth (Germany) and Ironman Monaco 70.3.
Roll on the 2010 Tri season!
Thursday's weather is forecast to be sunny intervals.
