JamesJames McLaughlin did his first triathlon on September 5th at the Vale Tridents Junior Triathlon, at Farringdon. He was completing in his first event for Team Kennet in the Tri-Star Start Category, 50m swim, 1km cycle and 500m run. Weather conditions were good although all the competitors had to battle with strong winds. He did very well, coming out of the water second, before taking the lead during Transition 1 and then leading through the bike over the grass track course. Coming into Transition 2, he held a small lead, but a swift change, and a powerful run left the rest of the competitors in his wake, winning the event by over 40 seconds, in a time of 9 minutes 30 seconds. This was all the more impressive considering that many of the other athletes were considerably more experienced, and had several wins on the circuit to their names already.
