A fantastic turn-out from Team Kennet at the Marlborough Triathlon yesterday with 15 athletes representing the club (and scooping four awards including 1st Team). An uncrowded pool for the 400m swim, an uphill (and into the wind) first half of the 20 mile bike and an up and down 5 mile run, all made for quite an enjoyable race!
The team was led home by Iain Adams whose impressive 32:12 for the run culminated in an overall time of 1:37:56, finishing in 18th place overall. Only nine seconds (and one place) behind was Gavin Mclaughlin, who set up his race with a quick 5:25 swim. Another minute behind (and in 21st place overall) was Aaron Bates on the back of a strong 56:32 bike split. Iain, Gavin and Aaron combined to win the team prize, great effort guys!
Next home for TK was Aston Nicholls in 1:40:57, 25th overall and taking out the Junior title. Bart Kuijten (1:45), Dave Mitcham (1:46), Rob Findlay (1:47) and Roger Davis (1:49) all finished close behind in the top 70 overall. Rounding out the men’s results were Martyn Maynard returning from a shoulder injury to finish in 1:53, Phil Cowhig in 1:56 and Matt Wilson in 2:07.
The women were led home by Carolyn Craik who had a great run (35:27) to win the Ladies 45-49 age group in 1:51, one minute behind was Elisabeth Crossman on the back of a strong 1:05 bike split and Vicky Adams rounded out the TK finishers in 2:10.
Other notable TK-affiliated finishers were Steve Robinson who had a fantastic race to finish 11th overall in 1:34:43 and John Crossman who crossed the line in 1:56 (all we need to do now is convince them both to officially join our club as first claim!).
The series now moves on to two Olympic-distance races in July with Bournemouth on the 5th and Milton Keynes on the 26th.
Thursday's weather is forecast to be sunny intervals.
